THE RESULTS OF THE XVII th INTER-SCHOOL DRAMA COMPETITION
“KAIFI AZMI TROPHY”.
Ideal Drama and Entertainment Academy (IDEA) organized it’s XVIIth Inter-School Drama Competition, “KAIFI AZMI TROPHY” on 22nd December 2011 at National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), opp. Museum, Kalaghoda. Five schools which participated in the competition were Farooq High School for Girl’s, M. Nazir Urdu High School (Bhiwandi), Smt. Surajba Vidya Mandir, Anjuman-i-Islam’s Dr. M.I.J. Girl’s High School and R.B.K. School (Mira Road)
Mr. Saeed Hamid, resident editor of Sahara inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. The judges for the competition were Jayesh Yadav of ‘Humri Bhagonwali’ fame, Siddharth Arora of ‘Muktibandhan’ fame and Shams Lalji, Theatre Actor Mr. Shamsherkhan Pathan, Assistant Commissioner of Police was the Chief Guest. Besides drama there were other competitions namely Mono-Acting, Mimicry and Fancy Dress.
Twenty Certificates of Merit were awarded to students who showed signs of being good actors in future. There were no claimants for Shaahid Bijnori Trophy (Mimicry), Jeevan Trophy (Fancy Dress), Johnny Walker Trophy (Best Comedian) and Jennifer Kapoor Trophy (Most Co-operative School). Sayyed Nausheen Bano of Anjuman-i-Islam’s Dr. M.I.J.Girl’s High School bagged the Sapru Trophy for best mono-acting. She was indeed a delight to watch. Agha Hasher Kashmiri Trophy for best script was awarded to Asfia Khan for her script, “Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke”. There was a tie for the director’s award and it was shared between Asfia Khan (Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke) and Sanjay Kanojiya (Kaalchakra). Amjad Khan Trophy for best actor male was awarded to Abhishek Thorat of Smt. Surajba Vidya Mandir and Nutan Trophy for best actor female was shared by Shaikh Sabiha Munir Ahmed of Farooq High School for Girl’s and Aashiya Panjwani of R.B.K.School, Mira Road. Nizamuddin Nizam Trophy for the third best play was bagged by Smt. Surajba Vidya Mandir (Hum Main Hai Kitna Dum), Shafi Inamdar trophy for second best play was awarded to Anjuman-i-Islam’s Dr. M.I.J.Girl’s High School (Kaalchakra) and Kaifi Azmi Trophy for Best Play was bagged by R.B.K.School, Mira Road(Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke).
Surprisingly the theme of all the plays were on current issues of students, women and the general public. Hum Panchi Ek Daal Ke deals with the effects of parental pressure on student’s life, academically as well as in co-curricular activities. Kaalchakra deals with the burning issue of female feoticide and also carried a message expressing the consequences of gradually diminishing ratio of girls. Hum Main Hai Kitna Dum dealt with the severe problem of discrimination among students and the biased attitude of the teachers towards some students due to their social status.
The next event, Inter-Collegiate Drama Competition, “THE P.L.DESHPANDE TROPHY” is scheduled for 30th December 2011 at Sathaye Auditorium, Vile Parle (East), Mumbai between
5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Entry is absolutely free.
